IT Professional - PC Maintenance Level 1

Course Overview

This purpose of the qualification is to provide entry to the ICT sector for learners wanting to become good all-rounders with a grounding in basic hardware maintenance, software installation and configuration, and general troubleshooting in order to provide support for the IT Small Office/Home Office Support. Holders of this qualification will be to deal with the day-to-day aspects of maintaining the IT infrastructure of small businesses, home workers and the consumer market. Much of their services will be delivered remotely, but there will be a need for timely physical interventions when required.

The qualification also provides learners with information about safe disposal of computer equipment. This award is aimed at new entrants, e.g. school leavers or for adults looking for a change in career.

The course helps to build skills and confidence in a range of areas by recognising the application of a range of IT skills and knowledge in the workplace. The flexibility of the qualification enables an individual’s skills to be adapted for a specific job and employer requirement.

Qualification/Course Structure

The course consists of the following mandatory units:

  • Unit 106: Dismantle, assemble, install and maintain a desktop computer system
  • Unit 107: Fundamentals of computing systems and customer care

Training/Study Options

The course is delivered in an intense format with the with a number of training days being followed by a practical assessment which carries a grading and ultimately leads to the overall qualification.

If you wish to enrol 6 or more learners from a single organisation, we can arrange to come to your own premises to deliver the necessary assessment and training days.

Entry Requirements

Although there are no formal entry requirements, the applicant should have an interest in IT and be able to use the basic functions of a computer in the working environment.

Good levels of English and Maths would also be desirable.

Duration of Course & Locations

Training would be delivered within one of our training centres:

  • Rayleigh
  • Chelmsford

It is anticipated that the length of the programme will be 10 days although this depends on the learner’s progress through the course.
