IT and Business - IT User Level 3
Awarding Organisation and Level
City & Guilds Level 3
Course Overview
This qualification is for anyone who uses ICT (Information & Communication Technology) on a regular basis as part of their work role. The course can be tailored to suit an individual’s job description.
Designed as an alternative to the NVQ ITQ route, it has flexible training and assessment options including e-learning, self study and classroom-based learning options. The course helps to build skills and confidence in a range of areas including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, desktop publishing and web design.
This qualification will give learners the opportunities to widen their knowledge and to develop a range of skills, techniques and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.
Qualification/Course Structure
The course consists of 37 QCF credits that include some of the following units:
- Improving productivity using ICT (mandatory)
- IT User Fundamentals
- Word Processing Software
- Presentation Software
- Spreadsheet Software
- Use of the Internet and Email
- Website Software
- Design and Imaging Software
The optional units chosen in conjunction with the assessor will vary in number and subject according to which level is chosen and the job role.
To gain this qualification, learners can also take Microsoft Office Specialist units in Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Training/Study Options
Your assessor will visit your workplace on a regular basis to carry out assessment activities. In between these visits, tasks will also be given to the learner and they will also be able to contact their assessor by email.
At the outset of the course, a skills analysis will be carried out to determine the learner’s current skills level which will enable a judgement to be made as to any training that might be required. This training can include sessions run within our training centres, both as part of a group and one-to-one sessions, or as self study e-learning which can be achieved in the learner’s own time.
This qualification is assessed in a number of different ways i.e. assignments, observations, practical assessments, video and photographic evidence etc. Submission dates will be set and you will get feedback on your work which will enable you to complete your units.
If you wish to enrol 6 or more learners from a single organisation, we can arrange to come to your own premises to deliver the necessary assessment and training days.
As a large part of the course involves collecting evidence and assessment, learners will need to be in a real working environment where this can be done. They will also need to allocate some time for organising and planning your course work and progression.
Entry Requirements
It would be expected that the applicant would already have achieved the level 2 qualification or have an equivalent level of experience. The applicant should also have an interest in IT and be able to use a wide variety of different computer functions within the working environment.
Good levels of English and Maths would also be desirable.
Duration of Course & Locations
Training would be delivered within one of our training centres:
- Rayleigh
- Chelmsford
It is anticipated that the length of the programme will be 10-26 weeks although this depends on the learner’s progress through the course.
