TAQA Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance Process Level 4
Awarding Organisation and Level
City & Guilds Level 4
Course Overview
The TAQA Internal Quality Assurance qualification replaced the V units (commonly known as the V1) in September 2010. This qualification is for anyone that is working in, or hoping to take up a role in, internal quality assurance.
The TAQA units and qualifications will provide people who carry out quality assurance in their organisation with the opportunity to develop and improve their practice as well as achieve a professional qualification for the role. They have been developed for those working in accredited learning, non- accredited learning, the NQF and the QCF.
Qualification/Course Structure
The Internal Quality Assurer Awards are at a Level 4 and consist of a mix of units – some competence-based and some knowledge based.
The Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (3 units) is designed for practitioners who lead the Internal Quality Assurance process and have responsibility for managing the quality of the assessment process. They may also develop systems and lead on visits from outside agencies such as awarding organisations.
- Unit 1: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment
This unit assesses a candidate Internal Quality Assurer’s (IQA) knowledge of the principles and practices of quality assurance in a learning and development context.
- Unit 2: Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment
This unit assesses a candidate IQA’s competence in assuring the quality of assessment from within an assessment centre or organisation. Primary evidence for the learning outcomes and assessment criteria must come from the candidate IQA monitoring and quality assuring the work of two assessors, each with a minimum of two candidates of their own through components of a qualification.
- Unit 3: Plan, Allocate and Monitor Work in Own Area of Responsibility
This unit helps learners to plan, allocate and monitor work in own area of responsibility, and make any necessary changes to original work plans.
Training/Study Options
This qualification can be achieved by attending a training day for each unit as detailed above in one of our training centres and is assessed by written assignment and/or discussion plus workplace observation and supportive portfolio evidence for the practical units.
For the practical units, the learner will undertake a series of meetings and reviews with the assessor in order to plan the collection of evidence and compile their portfolio. Candidate internal quality assurers will also be observed monitoring and feeding back to their assessors on their practice.
If you wish to enrol 6 or more learners from a single organisation, we can arrange to come to your own premises to deliver the necessary training days.
As a large part of the course involves collecting evidence and assessment of candidates, the learner will need to be in a real working environment where this can be done. They will also need to allocate some time for organising and planning their course work and progression.
Entry Requirements
To complete the practical units, learners must be part of an established delivery team and be working with at least 2 assessors who each have 2 learners of their own.
Additionally, the level 4 Certificate requires the learner has responsibility for members of the assessment team.
Applicants should have a suitable level of experience in the industry in which they wish to assess. Although this is not a requirement for the qualification, the qualification standards may determine a minimum level of experience in order to demonstrate occupational competence.
Duration of Course & Locations
1 day of training for each unit delivered in one of our centres:
- Rayleigh
- Chelmsford
These training sessions will be followed by workplace activities. It is anticipated therefore that the length of the programme will be 3 to 12 months but this depends on the progress of the learner through the course and the availability of evidence for portfolio purposes.
