TAQA Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment - Level 4

Awarding Organisation and Level

City & Guilds Level 4

Course Overview

The TAQA Assessment qualification replaced the A units (commonly known as the A1) in September 2010. This qualification is for anyone that is working in, or hoping to take up a role in, assessment.

The TAQA units and qualifications provide people who carry out assessment roles within their organisation with the opportunity to develop and improve their practice as well as achieving a professional qualification for their roles. It has been developed for those working in accredited learning, non-accredited learning, the NQF and the QCF.

Qualification/Course Structure

The TAQA qualifications consist of a mix of modules - some are competence-based and some knowledge based. The knowledge only module ( 'Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment') allows anyone who is interested in or needs to know about assessment and quality assurance, but is not a practitioner, to acquire knowledge and information about the roles.

  • Unit 1: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment
A knowledge-only Award for those who need to know about assessment but who are not currently practicing e.g. aspiring assessors or quality managers.

If you are not currently assessing, but wish to gain some background knowledge you can achieve the Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (Unit 1).  This can be built on to achieve the other assessor awards or certificate at a later date.

Training/Study Options

This qualification can be achieved by attending a training day for each unit in one of our training centres and is assessed by written assignment and/or discussion.

If you wish to enrol 6 or more learners from a single organisation, we can arrange to come to your own premises to deliver the necessary training days.
