IT and Business - Business Admin Level 3

Awarding Organisation and Level

City & Guilds Level 3

Course Overview

The qualification in Business & Administration has been specially designed for anyone working in an administrative position who wishes to develop their skills or gain a formal recognition of their existing skills. It is aimed at people who currently negotiate, supervise, manage and contribute to the running of an office          .

The course is entirely work-related and is based on a broad range of competencies from the administration sector. The qualification is competence-based with skills, knowledge and competences being assessed in a practical way. To achieve full certification, a number of units must be completed and assessed as competent. Portfolios are internally and externally verified to ensure that standards have been met.

Qualification/Course Structure

To gain this qualification the learner must be employed in an administrative role with some degree of personal responsibility. To achieve the L3 NVQ Diploma in Business and Administration, you must complete four mandatory units, and a number of optional units which will be selected at your enrolment session.

The units you can take as part of this qualification cover:

The mandatory units are:

  • Manage own performance in a business environment
  • Evaluate and improve own performance in a business environment
  • Work in a business environment
  • Communicate in a business environment

There are a wide range of optional units available, which allows you to tailor your qualification to your role. These include:

  • Negotiate in a business environment
  • Contribute to running a project
  • Supervise a team in a business environment
  • Design and produce documents in a business environment
  • Deliver, monitor and evaluate customer service to external customers
  • Contribute to innovation in a business environment

The optional units chosen in conjunction with the assessor will vary in number and subject according to which level is chosen and the job role. The wide choice of optional units gives a high level of flexibility, allowing the qualification to be tailored to meet the varying needs of participants and employers across all employment sectors.

Training/Study Options

Learners will be allocated a personal assessor and supplied with all the necessary reading and assessment material. The assessor will provide personal tutorial support at pre-arranged times and will visit your workplace on a regular basis to carry out assessment activities. In between these visits, tasks will also be given to the learner and they will also be able to contact their assessor by email.

At the outset of the course, a skills analysis will be carried out to determine the learner’s current skills level which will enable a judgement to be made as to any training that might be required. This training can include sessions run within our training centres, both as part of a group and one-to-one sessions, or as self study e-learning which can be achieved in the learner’s own time.

This qualification is assessed in a number of different ways i.e. assignments, observations, practical assessments, video and photographic evidence etc. Submission dates will be set and you will get feedback on your work which will enable you to complete your units.

If you wish to enrol 6 or more learners from a single organisation, we can arrange to come to your own premises to deliver the necessary assessment and training days.

As a large part of the course involves collecting evidence and assessment, learners will need to be in a real working environment where this can be done.  They will also need to allocate some time for organising and planning your course work and progression.

Entry Requirements

This is a work-oriented qualification and is suitable for those who undertake administration related activities.

It is aimed at candidates who work as part of a team and provide information and resources to others; it is essential that applicants are currently working in a business administration related role.

Good levels of English and Maths would also be desirable.
